Race is on for more cameras on Smart Phones

Nokia with HMD Global is setting the stage for a Smart Phone with 5 cameras in a circular format supported by two LED flash. Nokia will probably announce this on Feb 15th ahead of MWC 2018 global event (Barcelona on February 25). According to this site , "Multiple reports suggest that HMD Global will launch Nokia 9 and Android Oreo (Go Edition) based Nokia 1. Apart from these two phones, the company is also said to launch the Nokia 4, Nokia 7, Nokia 8 (2018) and the 4G LTE-enabled model of the Nokia 3310 feature phone" Huawei is rumored to follow (with P-20 phone) next this band wagon.

Now we have Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

Image
They are black, they are beautiful and they have OLED screen. There is yet another voice assistant BIXBY to join the Cortana, Alex and others. The future looks like the battle of the voice assistants. While S8 is 5.8", the S8+ is 6.2" with an aspect ratio of 18.5/9. probably the battery (3000 Ah & 3500 Ah) must have had an extra overhaul. The battery can be charged using the USB-C charging port. It has nice resolution 2960x1440 with the display covering 83% of the face. There is no HOME button but there is a pressure sensitive area that functions as one.The cameras remain the same as in its earlier phones. It appears that it has been designed to work with the up and coming Internet Of Things like the Connect Home feature. The OS is android. The phones ship sometime next month. Here are the specs (look after zooming) as seen on the SAMSUNG News Room site.

Google enters the phone hardware battle with its Pixel phones

Image
The field is full of actors having various kinds of difficulties from exploding phones to trembling hardware infected with 'touch disease'. Apart from the headline news of problems there is the underlying problem with 'Sales'. Google wants to take on Apple, if I go by some of the Internet sites. Microsoft has tried to enter smart phone market with a really good phone like Microsoft Lumia 950. It has not made any significant dent and can Google with similarly priced phones with very similar features do any better. OK, there is a better camera, so what? Google is also moving to AI-First from Mobile-First. Looks like it wants to one-up the Microsoft's Mobile-First slogan. Google phones were already in the market with the brand name Nexus made by Chinese and Korean manufacturers but now PIXEL is a Google branded phone made by HTC. Pre-ordering has started in many countries and you can pre-order at the Google site. The most significant feature of what makes...

In order to serve the growing number of Indian users of Xiaomi, a new dedicated data center is planned to be opened in India in 2015. Xiaomi was storing Indian users' data on Servers in China but after receiving warning from Indian Air force they have decided to move out from servers in China. Presently they will be moved to servers in Singapore and later to Indian datacenter when it gets ready. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-10-27/xiaomi-moving-indian-user-data-to-servers-outside-china Read my previous post oon Xiaomi here: http://hodentekmobile.blogspot.com/2014/08/xiaomi-from-china-challenges-apple-and.html http://hodentek.blogspot.com/2014/08/xiaomi-smart-phones-are-sell-off-in.html Are they more popular than iPhones? I bet they are. Here is a piece of text quoted here from the previous link: " And you thought iPhones were popular. At 2 p.m. on Oct. 14, Xiaomi put 100,000 of its Redmi 1S smartphones up for sale in India, using local e-commerce site Flipka...

Follow the review here: http://reviews.cnet.com/iphone-5s/ What are its features? It is the first smart phone with 64 bit architecture It has an outstanding camera It has finger print recognition system The above in addition to other standard features. Oh, Yes. It comes in 3 colors, Gold (very easy to seduce Indian and Chinese markets), Silver and grey . In fact, I heard that gold colored 5S is sold out in China.  The A7 chip is at the heart of this phone with the M7 chip providing much needed motion related data processing. Here are some of the details of the chips: A7 chip was designed by Samsung using its 28 nm Hi K Metal Gate process. It is twice as fast as A6 and it is the first time 64-bit architecture used on a smart phone. Even for computers 64-bit is a recent introduction.  The M7 Co-processor takes care of motion data from accelerometers, gyroscope, and compass.M7 lessens the load on the A7. M7 is from NXP Semiconductors (part number NXP LPC18...

Apple aligns with a new supplier of chips

Apple to severe its relationship with Samsung: http://thenextweb.com/apple/2013/04/10/apple-severs-more-ties-with-samsung-taps-new-partner-to-build-its-upcoming-a7-processors/ Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company(TSMC) to supply chips to Apple on a 3-year agreement.
