Race is on for more cameras on Smart Phones

Nokia with HMD Global is setting the stage for a Smart Phone with 5 cameras in a circular format supported by two LED flash. Nokia will probably announce this on Feb 15th ahead of MWC 2018 global event (Barcelona on February 25). According to this site , "Multiple reports suggest that HMD Global will launch Nokia 9 and Android Oreo (Go Edition) based Nokia 1. Apart from these two phones, the company is also said to launch the Nokia 4, Nokia 7, Nokia 8 (2018) and the 4G LTE-enabled model of the Nokia 3310 feature phone" Huawei is rumored to follow (with P-20 phone) next this band wagon.

Can Nokia come back to making high-end smartphones?

This market is getting tighter by the day. Should Nokia get into this at this late hour? Looks like it wants to . Two Nokia android phones are slated for the end of 2016 or early 2017. Size-wise they follow the general guide lines, 5.2" and 5.5", give or take a fraction. They will have metal bodies. There is going to be a great camera based on the latest in material science, a form Carbon called graphene . It will have better sensors for gesture interaction. Features: Water and dust protection IP 68 ( perhaps it was meant to be IP67 ) Fingerprint Sensors OLED displays Android Nougat ( Presently only Nexus line can use it ) This article is based on the article referenced earlier.

Good news for Windows Phone users and Windows Phone developers

Image
Microsoft will be updating the Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile by the end of the year. Developers are expected to have their apps ported over to Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft is looking at 2 to 3 years for increasing its share of devices to a billion or more. Windows 10 OS is the same whatever device you use, phone, tablet or PC. All apps will look the same on all the devices, quite a feat! You can switch from one device to another without loosing anything, whether it is music, video, YouTube whatever. Check out here: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/ However if you have signed for Microsoft Insider then you can install the preview for the following devices: WP10PreviewAvailability Source: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/preview-supported-phones To become an Windows Insider, go here: https://insider.windows.com/ This is a good news for Windows Phone developers using Nokia Icon which is tied to Verizon. Verizon has no news regarding when it will up...

Come Tuesday it is not Nokia Lumia, it is Microsoft Lumia

Image
Microsoft Lumia smartphone will be released on coming Tuesday. The promotional image is not breathtaking. I am not sure what kind of designers they have in Redmond. They should send them out to Cupertino. This picture is from the below link   This is the beginning of change over of names from Nokia to Microsoft. I do sincerely hope that Microsoft does not fire its staff responsible for Camera as I believe the Nokia branded cameras (I have an Icon) are perhaps the best of the cameras. Add your comments here: http://conversations.nokia.com/blog/2014/11/07/want-to-see-morelumia/ Another change I would personally like to happen is that Microsoft provide the upgraded OS (Windows Phone  8.1) to all phone owners irrespective of the carrier. This is a must, I would not take no for an answer. I have been ranting about it for a considerable time.   http://hodentekmobile.blogspot.com/2014/09/bad-news-if-you-have-nokia-icon-from.html

More Original Equipment Manufacturers to produce Windows Phones

Announcements made at Mobile World Congress ( MWC ) in Barcelona, Spain indicate Windows Phone will be manufacctured by 13 more OEMs. The list follows: Nokia, Samsung, HTC  Huawei Additional OEMs to manufacture mobile devices with Windows OS Foxconn, Gionee (New Delhi, India), JSR, Karbonn Mobiles, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer (Shanghai) and ZTE This is going to be interesting. Manufacturing based in China and India would provide very healthy competition which is going to be tough. India's own Askash phones may also join (speculation) in this group which appears to be android based. With so many new vendors and the vast population who are already very mobile, this market is going to grow and Microsoft will see better times for its Phone OS.

iPhone 5 or Goophone i5, which one would you buy?

Image
According to many web sites that follow phones, the company Goophone has cloned Apple's 5 phones by just looking at the leaked photos of Apple design. It appears they even patented the design in China even before Apple's release which will make it very difficult for Apple to get in.  It may be noted that the decline of Nokia in Asia was often quoted as being related to Chinese cheap know outs. On the plus side, the Chinese Goophone has impressive specifications even rivaling Apple's. I will not be surprised that you will soon find this cheap knock-out (I would not call it that as it deserves more respect vis-a-vis its specifications) coming into USA any time soon. Here is a comparison of specifications from the quoted site below the image.   http://kuwaitiful.com/tech-gadgets-ar/iphone-5-vs-fake-iphone-5/ Follow the story here, if you have missed, http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/iphone-5-vs-fake-iphone-5-goophone-i5.452664743/ Here is a video comparing t...

Incredible Video using Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone

This came in to my email box. This video is incredible.  I am sure the new Nokia Tablet will also have similar performance. With the breakthrough combination of a 41-megapixel sensor and Optical Image Stabilization, it allows you to capture details like no other smartphone camera in the world. _ I agree.

Jump start learning Windows 8 and Windows 8 Phone

Image
What is MVA? MVA is Microsoft Virtual Academy and you can learn building apps for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 free of cost. That is right, at no cost to you (Well, that is mighty generous). Of course you can learn a whole lot of others besides Windows 8 and Windows 8 Phone. Form factors is an important difference between these two platforms. Issues / concerns are described. Check it out here: http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/training-courses/windows-8-and-windows-phone-8-app-development For example, this particular course has 4 modules: Comparing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Basics of View Models MVVM Sharing Code This paraticluar module (Comparing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8) is neither about building apps for the two platforms nor it is going to show code that works for both platforms. HTC launches Windows 8 (NFC) phones 8x and 8c

Competition is heating up. HTC launched two NFC supported phones Phone 8x (for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) and Phone 8S with Windows 8 with screen resolution of 1280x720 (8x) and 800x480(8c). Both use the Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcom's system on a chip ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)#Snapdragon_S4 ). Some say that 8x almost indistinguishable from Lumia 920, http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57516060-94/htc-windows-phone-8x-vs-nokia-lumia-920-specs-and-more/ (competition heating across the board at all levels!). HTC is third behind Apple and Samsung in the market share in North America ( http://www.hartware.de/news_55910.html ).
