Microsoft launched a low priced smart phone (Lumia 525)  today with some very desirable features. Probably I will ditch my Nokia Icon 929 and get this one as Verizon is most likely not going to roll out Windows 8.1 for this Nokia Icon.

After years of misguided attempts at mobile, Microsoft is ready for a fresh start. While Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 mostly just looked like their desktop counterparts, Windows 10 Mobile aspires to something even more substantial. This time, Microsoft tried to build a mobile platform -- and a phone -- that can seriously replicate some of those big-screen experiences. Rather than just peck out emails and rough drafts on the new Lumia 950, Windows 10 makes it possible to connect a keyboard, mouse and display and let Universal apps like Word and Outlook to get more done.

Deploying a Universal Windows Project to Lumia 950

We will be using the Lumia 950 as the connected device and it has been set to Developer Mode as described earlier. We start with the HelloWorld Universal Windows Project(UWP) that has been tested to run without errors on the Local Machine as described here. Open the project in Visual Studio 2017 as shown. UWP: Displaying formatted text in a TextBox Control

The entry you make in a text box control is of data type text and sometimes you need to format it as a currency with thousands separator while displaying. Also, if the number of decimal places you enter is more than 2, you need to round it up to 2 in the output. How do you code this in a UWP app? Create a UWP page starting from a Blank UWP project with three controls as shown. There are two text boxes and a button. You enter a number in the top textbox (txt1) and click the button, the formatted currency will be displayed in the bottom textbox(txt2). The app displays as shown. Now provide for a click event for the button and insert code as shown: Convert_1 The string entered in txt1 is converted to data-type double, it is then 'rounded'.
